Diwali is celebrated by Hindus as on this day, lord Sri Rama with his wife Sita and brother Laxman, returns to his home. As per the Valmiki Ramayana, lord Rama with wife Sita and brother Laxman went on 14 years of exile on the order of his third Mother Kaikeyi. In the forest, they somehow come into contact with Ravan, the king of Sri Lanka. Ravana kidnapped Sita in the absence of Rama and Laxman. Both brothers then went on a search for Sita. During that time, the brothers meet Hanuman, who was part of Sugreev’s army. Sugreev was a king of Kishkindha. Rama and Laxman with the help of Hanuman, Sugreev and their army fought with Ravana and his army. Lord Rama defeated Ravana on the day of Dussehra.
