The Satyanarayan puja is performed in honor of Lord Satyanarayan, a manifestation of Lord Mahavishnu. In this form, the lord represents the essence of truth. The ritual aims to ensure that abundance, prosperity, happiness, and overall well-being thrive within the family. One of the most important offerings during this puja is a sweet dish made from sugar, wheat rava, kadali banana, cow's milk, and ghee.
The tradition of Satyanarayan puja dates back thousands of years. In the early days of Kalyug, a destitute Brahmin named Sudama, despite his poverty, maintained his deep faith in God while searching for food. At that moment, Lord Satyanarayan appeared before him in the form of an elderly man, marking the beginning of this narrative. This story, known as the Satyanarayan Katha, is recited to devotees as part of the ritual.
